On 3 March 2025, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Government of India and on 28 January 2025, the Hon'ble Minister, Forest and Environment, Government of Gujarat, inaugurated the supply of 200 motorcycles in two different occasions (100 motorcycles in North and Central Gujarat for Bear Landscape and another 100 motorcycles in Saurashtra for Lion Landscape) to field staff under the Project for Ecosystem Restoration in Gujarat (PERG).
This initiative aims to enhance patrolling efforts, ensuring efficient field operations and rapid response to human-wildlife conflicts.
The Inauguration cum Orientation Programme for PERG, held on September 12, 2024, at the Training Division, TRC, Gandhinagar, marked the official commencement of the capacity-building initiative under the Project for Ecosystem Restoration Gujarat (PERG).
The event witnessed the esteemed presence of dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Minister of Forest & Environment, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Forest & Environment, the Principal Secretary of Forest & Environment, and senior officials from the Gujarat Forest Department, including PCCF & HOFF, PCCF Wildlife, PCCF D&M, PCCF SF, and Chairman of the Gujarat Bio-diversity Board.
The session provided an overview of PERG’s objectives, intervention strategies, and implementation framework, with a special emphasis on monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. The training was attended by GFD senior officers, including CCFs, CFs, DCFs, and RFOs, who were introduced to key components such as plantation site identification, community participation, and GIS-MIS tools for project monitoring.
This inaugural session set the foundation for a structured and comprehensive capacity-building initiative, ensuring effective execution and management of the PERG project across Gujarat.
