Project for Ecosystem Restoration in Gujarat (PERG) is planned for the duration of eight years (2024-2032). Including the pre-project period, the project life is divided into three phases: Preparatory, Implementation and Phase-Out phases.
During the preparatory phase, institutional arrangement for project implementation and monitoring, and consulting services will be undertaken. Project Management Consultants (PMC) will also be engaged during the initial phase of the project.
During the implementation phase, the activities for ecosystem management and supporting components will be implemented with technical and managerial support from the (PMC).
During Phase-out Phase, exit strategy for ensuring sustainability and end term evaluation will be done.
Three ecosystem management components are designed for Coastal Ecosystem, Inland Ecosystem (grassland, wetland and degraded forest) and Human Wildlife Conflict Management and are mutually complementary in order to aim for the holistic improvement of the ecosystems in the project areas.

Each of the component includes awareness raising and research. Community development and livelihood activities has been designed to address the drivers of ecosystem degradation caused by the excessive interaction between the ecosystems and their beneficiaries of ecosystem services.
The foundation for implementing the ecosystem management components are laid by the supporting components comprised of institutional strengthening including monitoring & evaluation and communication and publicity.
